The UBL Board consists of eight directors having vast professional and industrial experience. The Board members include:
Mr. Prashant Jhawar , Chairman
Mr. Prashant Jhawar is a second generation entrepreneur who joined Usha Martin – the family managed business – as a trainee in 1982. Serving in increasingly progressive capacities in the organization, he has handled complex responsibilities over the years. Prashant was instrumental in listing Usha Martin on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange in 1994. In the same year, he established Usha Martin Telekom, a GSM cellular network provider, in partnership with Telekom Malaysia and other international investors, from which he successfully exited by trade sale to Hutchison Whampoa.
Mr. Rajeev Jhawar, Vice Chairman
Mr. Rajeev Jhawar serves as the Managing Director of Usha Martin Limited, which has diversified interests in wire ropes and telecom cables. Mr. Jhawar is a second-generation entrepreneur and has vast experience and expertise in management of conglomerates. He has been the Vice Chairman of Usha Martin Education & Solutions Limited since September 2010. Mr. Jhawar serves as the Director of Usha Martin Infotech Ltd (Usha Martin Education&Solutions Limited). He serves as Director on the Board of Usha Martin Limited (Managing Director), Usha Martin Finance Ltd, Guftav Wolf Speciality Cords Ltd., Usha Breco Limited, Usha Breco Realty Limited, KGVK Rural Enterprises Limited, Neutral Publishing House Ltd, Usha Martin International Limited, UK., Usha Siam Steel Industries Limited, Brunton Shaw UK Limited, Usha Martin U.K. Limited, Brunton Wolf Wire Rope Fzc., Usha Communication Technology BVI and EMMC Ltd UK. Mr. Jhawar has an education from University of Pennsylvania – The Wharton School.
Mr. Shiva Kumar Barasia
Mr. S. K. Barasia is a Fellow Member of The Institute of Cost and Work Accountants of India. He has over 50 years of experience in Accounts, Finance and Administration. He is on the Board of Directors of several companies and presently serving as the Whole-time Director of Usha Martin Ventures Limited.
Mr.Barasia started his career in the year 1955. He had worked with HINDALCO from 1962 to 1974 as an Accounts Executive. Later, he joined Usha Martin Group in the year 1974, and is still associated with the same group in various capacities in different companies, the last of which being Prashant Investments Limited, wherein he was the Managing Director. Then he retired and rejoined as Whole-time Director in Usha Martin Ventures Ltd in the year 2007.
Mr. Pranay Vakil
Involved in the real estate business for over 25 years with basic education and training in Accountancy (CA) and Law (LLB) Mr. PranayVakil is presently, the Founder Chairman of Praron Consultancy (India) Pvt. Ltd., a consulting organization, involved in Real Estate. As Founder Chairman of Knight Frank in India, he set up the joint venture in 1995 with Knight Frank UK, a leading international property consulting firm. He retired on September 30, 2012.
He has worked as Executive Director of Raychem in India (California based Fortune 500 Company) and with various TATA Group companies including Tata Textiles, TCS and Tata Sons, for over 15 years. He was associated with The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) for over 5 years as Co-Chairman of the Real Estate Committee and is now the Chairman of Housing & Real Estate Committee for 2012-13 with Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC) and on the Management Board of IMC.
He is one of the directors on board GODREJ – the largest listed companies engaged in property development, Deepak Fertilizers – a company engaged in fertilizers, chemicals and owning one of the largest malls. Onward Technologies Ltd a company engaged in Mechanical Engineering Design Services and IT Consulting Services, and Usha Breco Ltd, an Usha Martin Group company.
He has the distinction of being one of the first few in India to be honoured with Fellowship of Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the highest professional Real Estate Body. He is also on RICS Advisory Board in India and on the World Governing Council of RICS.
Mr. Arun Seth
Mr. Arun Seth has been the Chairman of India Operations at Alcatel-Lucent, S.A. since July 2011. Mr Seth served as the Chief Executive Officer of British Telecom in India with responsibilities in the SAARC region. He served as a Senior Vice President in the UB Group in their Corporate Management division in Bangalore and Delhi. He headed the commercial operations of Unitel Communications, the Telecom arm of the UB Group for five years. He has previously worked with HCL and United Breweries. He worked for BT Group in a variety of positions for over 14 years, having set up the BT India office in 1995 as the First Country Manager. He frame worked the JVs with Bharti in mobiles, VSATs and internet. With over 30 years of commercial and technical expertise in the IT and Telecom Industry in India, he is a regular speaker at seminars for Telecom and IT.
He is currently on the board of Jubilant Foodworks (Dominos), Cadista Pharmaceuticals (in USA) and Centum Learning, (a Bharti Group Co.), BalmerLawrie (a PSU). He is also on the Advisory board of TERI and TERI University and co-chairs the Business Council for Sustainable Development for TERI.
An alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIM Calcutta – he has worked in senior commercial positions in the UB Group, HCL etc.
Mr. S K Mitra
One of the early batches of investment bankers in India, he was instrumental in setting up the Merchant Banking Divisions of Bank of India in 1977 and then in 1978 for Standard Chartered Bank in Mumbai. During this period he was instrumental in advising several domestic and international business houses in setting up manufacturing projects in India, assisted by regulatory approvals, in structuring project financing and raising funds from Banks, Financial Institutions and capital markets. He was also involved in M&A activities on behalf of corporate clients. In 1985, he joined American Express Bank and was its Head of The Corporate Banking and Investment Banking in India. Focused on setting up a no. of high profile US investments in India besides the activities mentioned above during the tenure in Standard Chartered Bank. He switched over to Asset management in 1990 in the early stage of development of the industry in India, when only public sector players were allowed entry. He set up the GIC Mutual Fund, sponsored by the Government owned General Insurance Corporation of India. In June 1994, he joined the Aditya Birla Group as Director, Financial Services and was responsible for setting up the highly respected and successful financial services activities for the Group. The Group is one of the early multinational conglomerates from India with worldwide revenues exceeding US $ 27 billion.
He is currently on the Board of several reputed companies in diverse industries as an independent Director. He has been actively associated with several international NGOs, Committees and Chambers in India. He is a regular contributor of articles in reputed domestic and international financial publications and has delivered talks in domestic and international forums.
Mr. Raj Kumar Kapur
Mr. Raj Kumar Kapur by qualification is an engineer from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). He is having rich industrial expertise and very long professional experience in the various business segments. He is also very well connected with various Industrial Organizations and Associations.
